Crisis readiness audit
A structured assessment of whether a company has the people, procedures, tools and materials needed to respond well to a reputational crisis.
A crisis readiness audit answers a simple question: what would happen if a crisis broke tomorrow morning? It covers a review of existing procedures, the membership and authority of the crisis team, contact lists, statement templates, media monitoring and the way employees and key stakeholders would be informed.
It rests on interviews with board members and the people who would play key roles in a crisis, together with an analysis of documents and the risk scenarios relevant to the sector. The result is an assessment of gaps and an ordered list of actions, from the most urgent to those that can be scheduled over the following months.
- who decides, and who deputises,
- which materials are ready to use,
- how quickly the company can speak.
For the board, the audit is a starting point. It does not guarantee that a crisis will not happen, but it shows where the company would lose most time in the first hours.
