Media training
Practical preparation of board members and experts for dealing with journalists, usually including a simulated on-camera interview.
Media training is less about speaking than about keeping control of a conversation. Participants learn how journalists work, how an interview for a newspaper differs from live radio or a short on-camera clip, and how to convey a few key points in each without dodging difficult questions.
The greatest value comes from working on the company's real topics and practising under pressure: a recorded interview, playback, feedback and a second attempt. Only on camera do habits that weaken the message become visible, from overly long answers to jargon the audience does not understand.
- three key messages and the evidence behind them,
- answers to the hardest questions,
- techniques for returning to the point without avoiding the question.
For the board, training is an investment in readiness. A CEO who faces a camera for the first time in the middle of a crisis takes a greater risk than one who has practised in a safe setting.
